Mohawk Rye IPA (50 cl bottle) 7,5%
This beer is brewed through a cooperation between Stefan Gustavsson at Wicked Wine and Slottskällans Bryggeri. Compared to other IPAs this one is brewed using 20% rye malt and the hops Amarillo, Centennial, Columbus and Palisades.

Style: India Pale Ale (IPA)
Cost: 38,80 SEK

Bitterness------Sweetness-----Sourness-----Intensity-------Body

Appearance: 4/5
It poured a hazy amber liquid with a medium sized light beige foam. The big chunks of the foam got stuck on the side of the glass as it receded. Also left a nice lacing that stuck around until I finished the beer.

Smell: 7/10

Fairly weak smell of hops, grass, pine needles and malt.

Taste: 7/10
The taste is stronger then the smell. Hops, malt and a taste I couldn't quite distinguish. The sticker says the rye gives a pepper and mint flavour. I definitely feel the pepper and the mint is their it's just not as strong. It also had a milky taste.

Mouthfeel: 4/5

Fairly smooth mouthfeel with a low carbonation.

Comment:
This was a very odd IPA, the rye definitely brings something new to the style, not sure if it's positive or negative. My first reaction is that it would be better without it, but it might be a cause of learning over time. I also got the idea that rye might be more suitable in other beers, how about an imperial stout with rye? Or a porter?

Not sure what would be a suitable match for this beer. I got the feeling this is best on it's own as the bitterness will probably miss match with most food groups. Not sure why but it felt like an autumn beer.

Anyway I think it was a decent IPA, definitely something I would consider drinking again. It was easy to drink and I didn't even think about the relatively high alcohol.

Total: 3,6/5
